Federal Workforce Briefing #4: 7.14.25

- Estimates suggest that approximately 11,100 federal civilian jobs in the Commonwealth have already been affected by cuts, with an additional 10,500 positions potentially at risk
- A loss of nearly 8,000 jobs is anticipated from planned Department of Defense and Veterans Administration cuts
- Withholding does not yet exhibit the effects of Reductions in Force
Looking ahead, the true extent of workforce reductions in Virginia may not become fully apparent until later in 2025, as many RIFs remain phased or deferred and could still ripple through related private-sector employers. Future publications will continue to provide timely, evidence-based analyses to equip policymakers and community partners with actionable insights as the RIF landscape unfolds.
