• Coastal Virginia Small Business Resilience Self-Assessment and Guide – A resource for small businesses and organizations supporting businesses to help assess resilience and identify opportunities to increase business resilience

Social Resilience

• Contextualizing Natural Hazards and Impacts on Vulnerable Populations – An exercise to (1) understand the specific impacts of hazards on a locality, and (2) identify populations vulnerable to those impacts, with an emphasis on social and economic conditions that may exacerbate risk to hazards
• The New Normal of Flooding in Portsmouth, Virginia: A Survey of Perspectives, Experiences, and Adaptive Responses of Residents and Business Owners in Low-to-Moderate Income Communities – Assessment of how local governments can better engage with residents in low-moderate income communities to improve their resilience to recurrent flooding and ensure that their information needs are being met

Planning

The RAFT also helps localities and Tribes incorporate resilience into their planning efforts.  

• Planning for Resilience: Evaluation and Prioritization (PREP) Tool – A 3-step process for local governments to self-assess their vulnerability, identify resilience-building actions, and develop resilience plans
• Incorporating resilience into comprehensive planning – A report and workshop that provide examples for incorporating resilience into comprehensive planning
• Emergency Risk Communication Planning – Worksheets to guide towns and counties in developing an emergency risk communication plan
• Incorporating resilience into local ordinances – A summary of resilience ordinances and examples from across Virginia.
• A Framework for Coastal Flood Planning – A planning framework for flood adaptation that emphasizes 4 strategies: green infrastructure, gray infrastructure, planning and land use, and economic future
