Memorial to Enslaved Laborers

IEN's Distinguished Institute Fellow, Frank Dukes, led the stakeholder engagement for the Memorial.

IEN is also part of a multi-disciplinary Climate Collaborative team funded by UVA's Environmental Institute that is partnering with Southwest Virginia communities as they work toward greater climate resilience. The team of experts from across the University of Virginia and its College at Wise is exploring how developing renewable energy in the region can maximize positive impacts for Southwest Virginia's underresourced communities.

As part of this process, IEN adapted the RAFT tool so it can be useful to inland communities. The tool will continue to be adapted with the goal of offering support to other communities in SW VA.
