Lorie Smith 's Biography

Lorie has a 30+ year career in public service and non-profit organization leadership.

She currently resides at Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, VA where she serves as Chairperson of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors.  She is in her second term.

In Lorie’s work as an elected Supervisor, she serves as the Broadband Chairperson, School Board Liaison, legislative lead, BRIC Steering Committee, CPMT and Chairperson of the Roanoke Alleghany Regional Commission.  Lorie serves on the VACO Board of Directors and chairs the VACO General Government Steering Committee.  She also studied and earned her Certified Supervisor Certification.

Lorie contributes significant time serving on the Smith Mountain Lake Association Board and Tri-County Lakes Administrative Commission for over 10 years.  Her commitment is focused on keeping Franklin County’s number one economic driver, Smith Mountain Lake, healthy, safe and sustainable for years to come.  This is a point of significance as the lake in Lorie’s district contributes approximately 70% of the County’s revenue base.

Additionally, Lorie possesses a unique perspective as having sat on a school board, city council and board of supervisors.  In Franklin County, she is working directly with developers to maximize economic development opportunities in and around the lake.  Her private sector relationships are integral parts of how she provides leadership for the benefit of all.

Another perspective Lorie possesses is the parent of a 38-year-old severely disabled daughter that is cared for in their home. Lorie continues to advocate and participate with State, regional and local entities in addition to school divisions.
