Elle Smith

As Sorensen's Outreach and Engagement Specialist, Elle builds connections with Sorensen's 2700+ alumni, advisory board, donors, and other stakeholders. Elle developed an interest in working with Sorensen because "I’ve had the pleasure of attending multiple Sorensen Institute events, and I’ve always been inspired by the Institute’s commitment to developing engaged, effective leaders across Virginia." 

Elle most recently served as Assistant Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry in the administration of Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and worked closely with Agriculture and Forestry Secretary Matt Lohr. During her time in the administration, Elle also served with the Secretary of Education and the Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources.

Elle grew up in Wise County and is an alumna of Virginia Tech, where she earned bachelor's and master's degrees. She has a background in mentorship programming, youth development, and community engagement, including leadership roles with Virginia 4-H, the Governor’s Fellowship Program, and initiatives connecting students with experiential learning opportunities.  Elle will join the Sorensen staff as of March 17, 2026.
