See All IEN Programming

A nationally recognized leader in fostering collaborative change, the IEN works on a variety of real-world projects assisting organizations, agencies, industry, and communities in making bold, collaborative and sustainable decisions towards advancing environmental, social and economic equity. We are looking for students interested in shaping our world, together.

About

IEN offers academic year internships (12-20 hours per week) for Student Research Assistants and limited summer opportunities available through federal work-study, or academic credit through independent study. An IEN summer internship satisfies the MUEP internship requirement. Non-work study positions are available on a project-by-project basis. Preference for internship positions is given to graduate students in the School of Architecture’s Department of Urban and Environmental Planning, and students whose primary internship role will be at IEN.

What Does it Mean to be an IEN Intern?

IEN creates unparalleled student experiences. In recent years, IEN has provided over 23 high-impact student internships per academic year. Interns have worked on coastal resilience, sustainable food and food justice, the local agricultural and farming sectors, transforming public spaces, and much more.

IEN seeks interns with a variety of skills, such as research, writing, graphic design, event planning, and website management. Interns may also assist with meeting facilitation, and will learn to conduct public involvement processes—a key skill sought by both public and private sector planning agencies.
