ORIENTATION SCHEDULE: Monday, August 22, 10:00 AM - 3:30 PM

Part I: 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM:
Academic & Administrative Orientation - Wilson 402
You will be provided with an academic and administrative overview of the UIP, meet with your seminar participants and faculty member, discuss details about the seminar, take care of credit option changes and resolve issues related to any aspect of your participation in the UIP.

Part II: 1:30 - 3:30 PM:
Field Orientation - at your Sponsor's Location
Internship sponsors have blocked up to two hours to conduct an initial, or refresher, Field Orientation with you, and to plan your internship schedule and activities for the fall semester (take your calendar to the meeting with you).

( 1 ) CONTACT UIP IF: Please email UIP if it is impossible for you to attend both parts of the Mandatory UIP Orientation. Failure to attend the Mandatory Orientation without necessitous and compelling reason, and /or failure to discuss your full / partial absence with your UIP Liaison may result in the loss of your internship (Ms. Shizuka Modica: 434-982-2055, SModica@virginia.edu; Ms. Karen Farber: 434-982-5552, KFarber@Virginia.edu).

( 2 ) TELEPHONE YOUR INTERNSHIP SPONSOR: Please telephone your sponsor to arrange a mutually convenient time at which you and he/she will meet at his/her office on Monday, August 22 between 1:30-3:30 PM for your initial/refresher Field Orientation.

It is your responsibility to set / confirm the appointment with your internship sponsor. If your sponsor is not available, leave a message indicating who are, reason for your call, and the specific time you will call back. Leave a message each time you call. Follow-up each call with an email. If your sponsor will be out of town or is otherwise unable to meet with you on August 22, immediately reschedule at your sponsor's first available time. Please refer to your earlier email, "UIP Intern Confirmation of AY 2011-12 Internship Match," for your sponsor's contact information.

( 4 ) CHECK THE UIP WEBSITE: Please frequently check the UIP website at: www.virginia.edu/uip for information and updates about the Orientation and the UIP.

( 5 ) SPECIAL INFORMATION FOR STUDY ABROAD STUDENTS and OTHERS WHO ARE ON THE UIP WAIT-LIST: If you were unavailable to participate in the UIP application and admission process during the spring and have been wait-listed for consideration for an academic year internship, please remember you must do the following:
- attend the Mandatory UIP Academic Year Orientation, August 22, 2010, 10 AM - 12:30 PM
- complete an in-person, one-on-one interview with a UIP Faculty member, August 22, 2011 during open office hours: 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM.
- schedule & complete an in-person, one-on-one field interview with your prospective UIP Internship Sponsor no later than Friday, August 26.
- enroll in the UIP seminar to which you were conditionally assigned.
