Application Process


Current Application Status

The UIP application period for the 2010 To-Go Summer Program in Dublin, Ireland is from November 2, 2009 - February 24, 2020. The application period for all other 2010 Summer and Academic Year 2010 - 11 Internship options is from January 20 - February 24, 2010.

Normal Application Period:
The UIP application for all 2010 Summer and 2010-2011 Academic Year Internship options will open on January 20, 2010.

Special Application Period:
The application period will open on November 2, 2009 ONLY for:

  • students applying to the 2010 To-Go Summer Internship Program in Dublin, Ireland
  • students applying to the Academic Year Internship Program 2010-2011 who will be studying abroad during the Spring 2010 semester

Application Process

Take 5 easy steps to become a UIP intern:

Step 1

Consult the online UIP Internship Listing which describes over 300 internship opportunities in the Charlottesville area. You can browse through an alphabetical listing of all sponsoring organizations in the Charlottesville area or search for specific internships by keyword or organization name.

Step 2

Attend a UIP Information Session on one of the following dates:

Monday, February 1, 2010, 5:30-6:30 p.m. 
Location: Newcomb Hall Room 168

Tuesday, February 2, 2010, 5:30-6:30 p.m. 
Location: Newcomb Hall Room 168

Wednesday, February 3, 2010, 5:30-6:30 p.m. 
Location: Clemons Library Room 201

Thursday, February 4, 2010, 5:30-6:30 p.m. 
Location: Newcomb Hall Room 168

Step 3

Decide which UIP option is best for you.

Note: You can choose to do a Summer Internship and an Academic Year Internship.

Step 4

Complete an online application.

Step 5

Schedule a matching interview between January 25, 2010 and February 26, 2010. You will select an interview slot when you complete the online application. Your interview will be held at the UIP Offices, Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service, 2400 Old Ivy Road.

Priority consideration for internship preferences will be given to applicants for academic year internships who submit their applications and complete their preliminary interviews with a UIP staff member before February 10, 2010.
