Need to Transfer Credit for a Study Abroad Internship?
|
Internships are an increasingly popular feature of study abroad programs.
Typically, study
abroad internships are self-initiated and arranged within the
parameters of the study abroad program on an individual basis.
Application procedures and requirements vary greatly. Moreover,
deadlines for programs vary depending on location, with most deadlines
falling in between mid-September and mid-October. Some schools conduct
rolling admissions until the programs are full, so be sure to check
with the specific program to determine if there is available space.
Please
note that acceptance in study abroad internship programs are not guaranteed by the University Internship Programs (UIP).
However, when applicable, the UIP office will facilitate the credit transfer
process by providing you with the required documentation, letters and
signatures.
| Transferring Credit for Study Abroad Academic Internships |
As
with all credits earned in study abroad programs, approval of study
abroad internship credit must be completed PRIOR to participating in
the program.
To date, academic internships offered via the following
programs have been reviewed on an individual basis and approved by UIP as either SOC 480/SOC
481/SOC 482 or PSYC 491/PSYC 492
- Boston University (BU)
- Institute for International Education of Students (IES)
Please note, however, that academic internships requirements are not uniform across program offerings of BU or IES. As internship opportunities expand, UIP will continue to review and approve BU and IES internships on a case-by-case/country-by-country basis.
- In
addition, depending on the specific details of the internship offering,
several other study abroad programs MAY be recognized for transfer of internship
credit:
- State University of New York at Brockport (SUNY)
- New York University Study Abroad
- University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC)
- Educational Programmes Abroad (EPA)
To request approval, or for more information, please call Karen Farber, UIP Director at 434-982-5552 or Dawn Anderson, Student Services Coordinator & Lecturer at 434-982-2055.
