Studying Abroad Spring Semester 2008 and Want to Participate in the UIP?
Students studying Abroad during the Spring Semester 2008 are encouraged to apply to the University Internship Programs (UIP). Immediately after you complete your application, please email Ms. Dawn Anderson, Ph.D., danderson@virginia.edu, with the dates of your return to the United States and the UIP internship option for which you are appying. Once the application process is complete, you will be notified to schedule a preliminary interview with a UIP faculty or staff member.
Assuming the availability of internships related to your field of study/interest, the placement process involves at least 2 interviews--the first with UIP and then another with a potential internship sponsor.
We will work with you to schedule your interviewing and matching process upon your return from studying abroad. And, we will do our best to accommodate your timeframe over the summer to schedule interviews. However, because of time and location constraints, extension of the deadline does not mean we can guarantee you an internship. Each internship option has a different set of timelines, interviewing requirements, mandatory orientations and the like. Additionally, application requirements, and student research and development work associated with summer session D.C. and other summer domestic To-Go internships outside of the Charlottesville area require a significant amount of effort which, if not begun early in the year, usually are not possible to accomplish in the brief window of opportunity you have upon your return from studying abroad.
If you have further questions, please direct them to Ms. Dawn Anderson, Ph.D., 434-982-2055, or danderson@virginia.edu, or Ms. Karen Farber, Ph.D., MBA, 434-982-5552, or kfarber@virginia.edu.
