ACADEMIC CREDIT AND GRADING OPTIONS

Academic Credit
Academic credit is earned through either the Psychology Department or Sociology Department and is regular College credit.

PSYC 491, 492 and SOC 480, 481, and 482 are 4 credit courses.

  • 40% of your grade is based upon performance in the field placement (as evaluated by your field sponsor)
  • 60% of your grade is based upon performance in your academic seminar (as determined by your instructor).

Grading Options
All students participating in the University Internship Program, regardless of their major may elect to receive graded (SOC) or S/U credit (PSYC).

Sociology Students:

  • Internship credit earned in Sociology is GRADED (A+ thru F)
  • 3 hours of internship credit (SOC 480, 481 or 482) may be used to satisfy course requirements at the 400-level.

Psychology Students:

  • Internship credit earned in Psychology is graded on a Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory basis. Credit will be awarded if a grade of B- or better is maintained.
  • Up to 9 hours of internship credit (PSYC 491 or PSYC 492) may be counted toward your major or minor in Psychology.
  • Internship credit does NOT satisfy 400-level seminar requirements.

Other Students:

  • Other majors can use UIP internship credit to fulfill College electives.
  • You may opt for either graded or non-graded credit.

NOTE:
While preference for internship placement is given to psychology and sociology majors or minors,
ALL College students who meet the eligibility requirements
are strongly encouraged to apply and generally receive placement.
