Need to Earn/Transfer Credit for a Non-UIP Summer Internship?
For
students who are applying to non-UIP affiliated summer internships and
need verification that they are eligible to receive academic credit, UIP
offers students the ability to earn academic credit for summer
internships at companies that require their interns to receive academic
credit. This is done through our Internship To-go program option, a
distance learning format in which interns complete academic assignments
via the internet.
UIP will work with you throughout the process
of securing an Internship-to-Go and meeting the requirements of both
the sponsoring organization and U.Va. UIP provides academic support
comparable to the On-Grounds programs, including:
- Certifying your eligibility to receive credit and meet the technical and legal requirements of the sponsor
- Meetings to prepare you for your internship and debrief you upon your return to U.Va
- Web accessible assignments
- Feedback on both your academic and field performance throughout your internship
- Regular and crisis consultations with 'on-call' faculty
Although
To-Go interns cannot attend a weekly academic seminar, you will fulfill
the academic component by completing weekly check-ins, short papers
related to assigned readings and a final paper. Making use of the
Internet and ToolKit, the Internships-to-Go format allows you to intern
across the country and around the world. Your ‘faculty-on-call’ will
consult with you throughout your internship and evaluate your written
work. Like other interns your field sponsor will evaluate your
performance twice during your internship experience. Students
participating in the Internshihp To-Go option MUST enroll in Summer
Session and pay tuition and related fees.
Please note:
- To-Go Internships are self-initiated and arranged on an individual basis
- Dates for a To-Go Internship must coincide with the academic calendar dates for the Summer Session
- UIP will help identify potential sponsors, but you must apply directly to the sponsors
- Application procedures and requirements vary considerably between organizations
- Applications should be made early in order to make necessary arrangements with sponsors
- UIP will provide documents/letters and signatures as required
- Confirmation of your internship must be made no later than May 1
To-Go interns may also participate in the Academic Year Internship Program in Charlottesville.
WHEN: To-Go Summer Internship Program Option—Summer Session 2008—9 weeks. Also, you must attend a mandatory half-day orientation session on April 30, 2008.
