The Virginia Newsletter

The Cooper Center produces The Virginia News Letter, a publication devoted to Virginia public policy issues. The newsletter was launched in 1924 by the University of Virginia’s Bureau of Public Administration, an early predecessor of the Cooper Center.

The newsletter is devoted to Virginia public policy issues. Authors are drawn from the Cooper Center, elsewhere at the University of Virginia, other public and private higher education institutions in Virginia, and non-academic experts in the state. Each issue features an article by a different author.
Topics cover a variety of issues including state and local government finance, governmental organization, public education, the state’s economy and major industries, environmental issues, state politics, and many other subjects.

Beginning in 2009 the publication became entirely electronic. The Virginia News Letter is issued six to eight times per year. John L. Knapp, Senior Economist in the Cooper Center’s Center for Economic and Policy Studies, is the current editor, and Robert Brickhouse is a consulting editor.
