Beverly A. Burton, Senior Assistant City Attorney in Richmond and recipient of LGA's 2007 Cherin Award, is taking early retirement from the City as of August 1, 2010. Known as a tenacious and ethical litigator who frequently and freely assists other attorneys in preparing for their own cases, Beverly is most deserving of a respite after more than 20 years of service in the City Attorney's Office.

Effective May 3, 2010, Allen L. Jackson became the new City Attorney for Richmond. A 1977 graduate of the University of Richmond, T.C. Williams School of Law, Allen most recently served as Chief Deputy City Attorney for Newport News from 2006 to April 2010, and Deputy City Attorney from 1988 to 2006. Prior to his service in Newport News, Allen served as Assistant Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Virginia, from 1981 to 1988, and as a general civil practice lawyer in the private sector from 1977 to 1981.

Effective May 1, 2010, Helivi L. Holland began to serve as Director of the Department of Juvenile Justice after being appointed to that position by Governor Robert F. McDonnell. A graduate of Virginia Tech and William and Mary Law School, Helivi most recently served as Deputy City Attorney for Suffolk. Additionally, Helivi has served as a senior prosecutor, an adjunct professor, and a guardian ad litem.
