STAFFORD COUNTY
COUNTY ATTORNEY

Stafford County, population 124,900, located in the I-95 corridor midway between Richmond and Washington D.C., invites resumes of application for the position of County Attorney. Graduation from an accredited law school, admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Virginia and five to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in the practice of law. Past local government experience an important consideration, with service as a local government attorney or deputy attorney in a comparably sized or larger community desirable. Individual must show a broad range of experience and knowledge of Virginia law and a high level of knowledge and performance in areas that include: zoning, subdivision and land use/planning matters, utility issues, personnel and labor law, local tax issues, County contracts and contractual matters related to development issues, procurement of goods and services, lease and purchase of real property, easements, freedom of information, conflict of interest, litigation, inter-local agreements and ordinance preparation and amendment. Experience in dealing with multiple complex issues in a high growth community is an important consideration. General knowledge and experience with federal, state, local, criminal, constitutional and administrative laws necessary. The salary for the position is negotiable, based on qualifications and experience. CITY OF PORTSMOUTH
ASSISTANT CITY ATTORNEY II

The City of Portsmouth is seeking an attorney to provide a variety of litigation services to the City and its employees and officials, including civil litigation and code enforcement, pretrial and appellate responsibilities, and administrative hearing duties. The attorney will research legal issues, draft legal pleadings, documents, and memoranda and assist other office attorneys with complex litigation. The attorney may also be required by the City Attorney to provide similar services to the School Board and to undertake additional nonlitigation duties. The position requires graduation from an accredited school of law and 3 to 5 years of experience in the practice of law, including substantial litigation experience in state and/or federal courts. Local government experience is preferred, but any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. The position is open until filled and provides a salary range of $65,302-$88,158.
