On May 20, 2009, Prince William County Attorney Ross G. Horton announced his decision to retire after 31 years of public service, effective June 30, 2009. Ross began his career as the Assistant County Attorney for Prince William County in 1974 and then left in 1981 to become the Stafford County Attorney. In 1983, Ross entered private practice but returned to public service with the Prince William County Attorney's Office as a Senior Assistant County Attorney in 1987. In 2005, Ross was named Acting County Attorney and in March of 2006 he was appointed County Attorney. Ross looks forward to spending time with his family and pursuing other interests.
In light of Ross's retirement, Angela Lemmon Horan, previously Prince William Deputy County Attorney, has been named Interim Prince William County Attorney as the County looks for a full-time replacement. Effective May 20, 2009, Andrew R. McRoberts recently resigned as Goochland County Attorney. After eight years of service in Goochland, and over 15 years of full-time government service in various localities, Andrew will now be continuing his representation of local governments via the local government practice group at Sands Anderson Marks & Miller PC.
