The Institute of Government maintains a Mailman listserver and hosts a number of subscriber forums for local government and affiliated organizations.
Some subscriptions are closed to the general public and require membership in a specific organization. Subscriptions to lists that are open to the public require approval from the list administrator. This process has been implemented to avoid/minimize spam sent to the lists. Some lists are interactive forums allowing all subscribers to post, while others are one-way broadcast lists.

Lists hosted by the Institute of Government include

• Virginia Local Government Web Alliance (VLGWA): Forum for local government, state government, and school or local government affiliated personnel involved in web content and web development efforts.
• EBIS/Techsupport: Moderated forum for local government managers and staff, which addresses problems and issues on all levels.
• LEADlist: Forum for Leading Educating And Developing alumni.
• VML: Broadcast list for Virginia Municipal League members.
• VCCA: Forum for Virginia Court Clerks Association members.
• VLGMA: Broadcast list for Virginia Local Government Management Association members.
• LGAlist and LGAgroup: Forums for Local Government Attorneys of Virginia, Inc. members and associate members.
