Thomas M. Guterbock, founding director of CSR, received extensive training in quantitative, multivariate methods and has applied these in CSR research, publications and his applied work. In his role as senior project designer and project director for the Center, he has originated and implemented numerous studies, including many that involve either complex sampling, complex questionnaire protocols, or complex analysis strategies.
Dr. Guterbock is also Professor of Sociology, and Research Professor of Public Health Sciences at the University of Virginia, where he teaches survey research methods at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Jim Ellis joined CSR as its Director of Research in 2007 after 20 years at Virginia Commonwealth University's Survey and Evaluation Research Laboratory. He holds his Ph.D. in Educational Research and Evaluation from Virginia Commonwealth University, Master's degrees in Survey Methodology (University of Maryland-College Park) and Mass Communications (VCU), and a B.A. in English from the University of Virginia.
Deborah Rexrode received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Virginia in 2012. Dr. Rexrode joined CSR in 2005 as a Graduate Research Analyst and then became the Senior Project Coordinator in the fall of 2012. Dr. Rexrode has extensive experience in survey research and project management. She has strong leadership, management, and organization skills and has provided complete hands-on management of projects including electronic mailing and respondent relationship management.
Dr. Rexrode is experienced in mail surveys, web survey development, questionnaire construction, data analysis, and written reports. She is a trained moderator for focus groups, leads interviewer trainings, and oversees a staff of five research analysts. Dr. Rexrode is currently overseeing the CATI Telephone Lab with a staff of thirty interviewers.
Kate earned both her M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of Virginia and studied research methods at Columbia University. She is a trained focus group facilitator. In addition to her work at CSR, Kate is an instructor in the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies Program at UVA, where she teaches courses in both sociology and history.
A native of the area, Ila brings several years of office and accounting experience to her position with CSR. She's the one to contact if you're an employee with a question about pay or expense reimbursement, or if you're a client with a question about bills or payments...and she cheerfully handles a lot of other types of questions, too! Her duties include Payroll, Client Billing and Internal Account Maintenance, and Accounts Payable.
